Is there any legal problems with paying a non realtor friend to find a buyer for my home?

Yes. NC regulates this specific activity through its NC Board of Realtors. Your friend can get into trouble with them AND you may be on the hook for any representations and non-disclosures on given your behalf. There is a lot of disclosure documentation you have to provide a prospective buyer. It may be easier for you to list it yourself with help-u-sell or FSBO. Check out their websites. Best of Luck!
