Legal Question in Real Estate Law in South Carolina

My mother co signed for me a car back in May of this year. I am currently trying to move out of their home and she refuses to let me have my car, because she says she co signed so that means she owns it. Can she legally prevent me from taking the car?

Co-signing refers to who is responsible for paying the loan. Ownership is determined by who's name is on the title. So whoever has thier name on the title owns the car. There could always be a separate agreement as to a non-owner being loaned the car. That is, a separate agreement in which the owner agrees to allow someone to use the car. But that doesn't change ownership. That is still determined by who's name is on the title.
