Roommate ignoring eviction notice, phone calls

While working in SC for 4 months, I took on a short-term lease on an open roommate spot I found online. At the end of Sept, I was again sent out of state, and I told my roommate that I would move out, but continue to pay my share of the rent until the end of our lease in mid-Nov, as I had regularly paid on time. I received a call from the apartment complex informing me that an eviction notice had been issued on our apartment because my roommate had not paid her share plus half the water and her pet deposit, totalling $500, and payment of this amount is the only means to erase the notice. Both myself and the apartment complex have been trying to call her but we get only voicemail and no response. Now as a young professional not wanting to have an eviction notice on my record, I am seriously considering fronting the rest of the money for Oct's rent (and then the prorated Nov rent) and then telling her that she owes me the total of money that should have been her share in all of this, and if she doesn't try to pay me by a date I set, I would take her to small claims court.

After hearing an lots of advice from others, I would really like to what one with a legal mind thinks if this a good idea to good idea or do otherwise.

You did a pretty good job of explaining everything except for one thing. Was there a writen lease and who was on it? Was it a month to month lease? You can respond to [email protected]
