Legal Question in Business Law in Tennessee

Direct Deposit Conversion

I received a letter from my employer today saying that my bi-weekly paychecks will be MANDATORY direct deposit. I am being forced by my employer to open a direct deposit checking or saving account. In a letter sent to me my employer says that they have met all legal requirements for making a direct deposit conversion. I work for a local hospital and my question is Do I have to open a direct deposit account? (or) can I choose to continue to receive my paychecks as I normally would receive them by Check. Can the hospital force me to do this.

Re: Direct Deposit Conversion

Yes, the hospital can require you to direct deposit your check as long as the hospital makes all similarly situated employees do the same thing. It cannot discriminate against protected groups, otherwise they can make such a requriement a condition of your employment.
