Selling web designs

I have a website where I offer free templates. This is partly to demonstrate my skills as a designer, but also something I really enjoying offering to the community.

I have received several offers to buy one of my public release (free) themes. I don't understand why someone would want to buy what is free and already in use on several hundred sites. I have pointed out to them they could not possibly have exclusivity, since I placed it in the public domain but they keep asking. What would be the possible ramifications of selling my template, if I gave in to the request?
