Lawsuit filed over credit card debt

I am behind severly on credit card debt and they have filed a lawsuit against me. What options do I have? I am happy to pay back, but can't aford to do a lump sum. The debt settlement companies scare me and they want a fee upfront as well. I have been unable to find an attorney in my town that deals with this sort of case. Any help is appreciated.

If you can't afford to pay back a credit card, then you probably can't afford an attorney. Call the collection agency and tell them you would like to work out a payment plan. They should be able to help you as long as you are willing to pay the debt.
