Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

I got a check advance and didnt pay it back on time. A year later, they're saying lf I dont have the money by 3pm they will file fenlony charges on me. I ask if I can send a payment thursday they said no. can they do that?

Loans are civil matters, not criminal matters. If you're acknowledging you owe the debt, go ahead and make payments - but also make sure you keep some sort of documentation as to the payment. Don't pay in cash - pay in check or money order and only pay what you owe.

The only way they could pursue criminal charges would be if you falsified documents to obtain the loan, or committed some type of fraud in initially obtaining it. At that point, it's in their discretion whether or not to report it. Typically though, people just want their money and if you are making payments they likely won't pursue it.
