Re: reducing/erasing old DUI fine

You say you were suppose to be found indigent 10 years ago. If so, why weren't you? What happened? And rarely are you sentenced to just a fine for DUI. I've never seen it happen although I guess it could be possible. What were the other terms of your sentence? Probation? Community service? Alcohol abuse program? Driving safety class? Did you complete those other terms? Did your sentence call for a term of imprisonment if you failed to complete the other requirements? If you are truely indigent and the court has required you to show cause why you should not be imprisoned for nonpayment, you might be able to show cause and have your fine reduced. But there are several hoops to jump though under Missouri statute Section 560.031 so as you can imagine a reduction in fines doesn't happen all the time. The court figures that if you were unable to pay you should not have promised them 10 years ago that you would if this was the result of a plea bargin and not a trial.
