Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

How can I get my child support?

The father of my child has been ordered to pay child support. (We were not married; he is married.)His latest gambit is to quit his job so he doesn't have to pay. His wife has a job and makes very good money. Is she responsible for the child support payment since this is her spouse's debt?

Unfortunately, his wife is NOT responsible for paying his support obligation. Only he is. The only recourse you have is to charge him with contempt of court for not paying his support. Your county child support enforcement office should be able to help you with that.

It is his obligation only to pay the support. Quitting his job does not relieve him of the obligation to pay. You can contact the child support office or an attorney to review and amend the current support obligation. The court can impute income to him, even when he has none. Good luck.
