Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Property Settlement

My husband of 7 months and I purchased and automobile 3 months into our marriage. I put up a van that I acquired from my previous marriage towards the purchase. My current husband quit 2 jobs that he had, abandoned our home after 6 months, took the automobile which had no insurance, had not made a payment on it in 3 months, rear-ended someone and now the automobile has been recovered by the Finance Company. I plan to file for divorce soon. What are my options in this matter?

Re: Property Settlement

The divorce court can order a "hold harmless" between you and your husband, but you are divorcing your husband, not Visa, MasterCard or GMAC Financing. You would still be liable for the debt if your name is on it and the credit company can sue both of you. For more info, see www.gsmithlawfirm.com
