That is an almost impossible question to answer based on the information available. It would depend on how the grandfather came into possession of the box of old books. For example, was it someone else's building that he was cleaning and he just took the books without any permission? Was it a vacant building and he was hired to clean it up? Was it his building? These are the sort of initial questions that have to be covered in order to begin to determine the answer. There are additional questions which will bear upon this issue and which must be gone through in order to reach any meaningful legal advice.
