Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Tennessee

Copyright Law

I'm wanting to create my own glossary or dictionary of definitions for accounting terms for my website.

Are definitions protected by copyright laws?

Re: Copyright Law

Yes, but not as much as you might like. The underlying facts of the definition are not protectable; the only thing that you can protect is the specific choice of words that you use. That said, registration is cheap ($30) and you may as well do it when you complete your project and post the results. Be sure that your application for registration antedates the publication.

Best wishes,
