Do you recommend sending a letter to a neighbor, who has their property for sale, that the property line is in dispute?

If you only knew how complicated this can get. There are only about a dozen facts that would have to be added to the question before even reaching the answer as to who owns the property that is in dispute. I guess the first step would be to get a survey and determine the location of the property line. If the neighbor is encroaching on your property you could write them a letter or just show them where the surveyor placed the stakes. Hopefully the neighbor would make whatever adjustments are needed and all would be fine. Just know that the missing facts could leave you not owning the property in dispute regardless of where the original line is located.

If it is significant - I would get into it before the property is sold and that would include putting the real estate agent on notice of the disputed property line. If it is an insignificant area - it may not be worth the cost of the survey.

Good luck ...
