Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee

My mom died in Dec 2010. My stepfather has only a granddaughter living. Upon his death since he will not make a will, what would be my rights to his estate. He has put me on the checking account and as beneficiary on life insurance policies. Would it make any difference if she does not have any contact with him at all?

You will receive the checking account if it is "joint tenants with right of survivorship." You need to check with the bank to make sure about that. You will receive his life insurance if you are the beneficiary. If he owns anything else, without a Will leaving it to you, the granddaughter will receive that property.
