Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee

Power of Attorney responsibility

My sister was titled as power of attorney for our mother. There are 6 children. We are all curious of what her responsibilities are. Our mother has retirement and social security money given to her each month that equal $1900. Our mother lives with our sister and she cares for her. We all agreed that when she moved in with our sister that she would be given $800 a month for her services. We are trying to check in on her finances and our sister is being very secretive about her money. We would like to know what her role is as power of attorney and is she allowed to keep this information from us? If we find that our mother does not have much money in her acct, as she should, what steps should we take or what steps are we allowed to take? We figure that there should be around $1000 a month put into an account for our mother and its been around 6 years. We realize that it might night be that exact, but something close. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you

Re: Power of Attorney responsibility

The POA doesn't require your sister to communicate with you regarding your mother's finances. That may be a family obligation, but not a legal requirement. If you want to know the status of your mother's finances, you might have to take legal action. I urge you to consult an attorney to discuss your options.
