Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee

My new wife was a widow. Her husband's creditors have literally intimidated her into paying his medical bills to the point where we barely have enough to live on for a month. Is this legal? It's certainly immoral; why should she be responsible for the bills of a dead person?

Her potential liability depends on whether she signed as guarantor at the doctor, hospital, etc. Also, if she acknowledged the debt even after his passing, she may be in a difficult position now to fight the debt. She should seek the help of a consumer credit organization or an attorney who specializes in consumer debt.
