Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee

What happens when there is no will?

The house my grandparents own is in the males name, he has passed and there is no will. The city wants the land to expand a road ,does the property go to the female? Or does she need to change it to her name to get full value from the city.

Re: What happens when there is no will?

It is most likely that the land passed to the wife and any living children (of the husband). The answer to your question is very dependent on the specific facts applicable to your situation. You should consult with a competent Tennessee attorney to advise you about ownership of the house and how to deal with the city. Please contact me with questions.
