Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

i am looking to register my ecommerce business in the US and i am a foreigner living in the Maldives. Also a citizen. i had come across the ITIN number from the IRS which i am supposed to apply for in order for the business to be registered am i right?

As i’ve tried to find out more and there is no embassy in Maldives it’s a little confusing for myself and i believe for the state representatives in the area too as this is not a common issues faced by them.

Sorry if i’ve confused you but basically i would like to get the business registered with whatever documents you may need from my end and preferably with the help of someone who understands the entire process for someone in my situation. So I would like to clarify would I need to get an ITIN/EIN and if so how would I go about this process.

Thank you.

Hi,

This should not be an issue. You are free to create an LLC here in the US even though you are a foreign resident and you can acquire an IRS EIN without a US SSN, it just takes longer because it has to be done by mail. They say to allow for 5-6 weeks, but could be longer. You are best served if you can get a US mailing address perhaps through a US registered agent or virtual office, etc.

If you feel you need help with it, you are welcome to reach out anytime. We can help with the entity set up, the EIN, US trademark clearance and filing, online terms or service, privacy policy, etc.

Congratulations on starting your business!

It's a good move to hire a US based business advisor who can help you with all aspects of getting up and running as a business. You can't get this done by short email messages on a website.

Good luck.
