Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

I am starting a business in Texas with a partner and curious how we should structure it. We felt it was best to do an LLC as ourselves as members and felt that this would give us the ability to invest in other companies as well as register multiple DBA's for businesses we start after we have started our first. We are starting in the auto repair business but plan to invest in other mechanics later to help start their businesses as well as diversify our business into a performance division and a consultant division for automotive R&D but all a part of the LLC (that is where the multiple DBAs work in). Further we understand that we can reorganize into and S corp if we need to later on. Is this the right way to go or do we need to structure differently?

Based on what you have written, there are a lot more items to consider regarding which formation to choose when setting up a business in Texas. You need to consider taxation issues along with potential of personal exposure. LLC offer a different protections and taxing aspect than do S Corps. Discussing these options with a law firm would be your best starting point.
