Legal Question in Technology Law in Texas

Domain Ownership

A close friend and I were doing business together for the past 2.5 years. I had registered a domain name for the company in which I am officially not a partner of.

We are no longer doing business together and he his threatening civil and criminal lawsuits against claiming I ''stole'' the domain. I registered the domain myself, with my credit card and have been the owner for 3 years now. Does he have any case against me?

Re: Domain Ownership

There is not enough information given in the question on which to base a good answer. You say that you registered the domain name "for the business" and worked with the other party for a number of years, presumably where both of you considered that the domain name was part of the business. This might weigh in favor of the other party's claim, even though you registered the domain name in your own name. More information must be provided as to the nature of the business relationship, what was understood by each party, and what type of agreement may have existed regarding the conducting of business together. Its not so much a domain name issue as it is a contract law issue.

Probably not, but I'd need to know more to be certain. Feel free to contact me, it wouldn't take much time.
