Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

I'm 17 and my engine in my car blew up about 6 months ago. My Dad knows a guy who fixes car's and said that he would take care of it for $2,000. He replaced the engine, and i got my car back after paying him the $2,000. Not even 2 weeks after I received my car back, the cam snapped and I had to send the car back. The mechanic had given me a defective engine. It's been almost 3 months now that I have not received my car back. My Dad and I have been up there several times to check up on the car. At one point in time, I went up there on a Thursday, he told me to come back that next Saturday and the car would be finished and ready for me to take home. My Dad went to pick up the car on Saturday and the mechanic said that he took the car for a test drive and that the engine he had put in it blew up also and that he had another engine in the shop that he could put in it. A week after that my Dad talked to a mechanic that said that "my car never came down off the wrack" and told my Dad that there was no "test drive." I work two jobs, one full time and I am entering my second year of college in the fall. I have places to be and not have a car, or the $2,000 that I invested into it is making my life really tough. Being 17 with parents that feel like "there is nothing they can do about it," if feel like there is some kind of illegality here. What can I do?

Talk to your parents about negotiating a settlement with the mechanic, or taking the case to JP court. With the documentation you have, as well as witness statements, you should be entitled to relief to get your car, and your $2000.00 back.
