Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Cancellation of contract for service.

I own a C-Corp. We entered into contract for an onhold messaging service 5 years ago -- the contract was up 10/2005. In March 2006 we have selected another service and are being told our contract auto renewed. The wording in the contract states that the contract is 5 years and will renew for like subsequent periods. We never received anything advising the contract was up for renewal. Are we obligated to pay a full fee to discontinue the service -- we are being charged for 5 years worth of fees.

Re: Cancellation of contract for service.

If there were certain steps to take in order to cancel the contract when the initial term was complete, and you failed to take those steps, you may be on the hook.

It should be worthwhile to have your contract looked over by local counsel.
