Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

credit card payments

I can't make the minimum payment on some of my credit cards, but I continue to make small monthly payments towards them. Collectors are calling me, and I'm feeling intimidated and overwhelemed. Because I am sending them money each month, can they issue any sort of judgment against me? Can they seize my bank account and any property that I own? One of my accounts has already been turned over to a collection agency, and I'm working on payment arrangements through them. I have documentation of my intent to make good on these debts, but it will be a slow-going process. I just need to know where I stand legally in a matter such as this. Thank you.

Re: credit card payments

You are handling this correctly.

Do not be intimidated or overwhelmed. Yes, they can take a judgment against you, but with regular, smaller payments coming in, it would be foolish if they did. They cannot garnish your wages. If a lawsuit is filed, discuss with the attorney a payment plan in exchange for dismissal of the lawsuit.
