Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

not my credit card

my credit report shows a credit card issued to me by Masy's. I called them and they told me the social security number on the account didn't match mine, but they said I was liable for the balance and the only to remove the card from my report was to pay off the account and close it. What can I do?

Re: not my credit card

Go to the FTC website (ftc.gov) and download the identify theft affidavit, fill it out. Send it with a dispute letter to all three credit reporting agencies. That ought to take care of it. IF it doesn't, contact a consumer lawyer. Send the letters certified mail, return receipt requested.

Don't believe them, for one thing. You need to retain an attorney or find free credit consulting somewhere because you're problems are probably just beginning.
