Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

False information on credit report

I had a child support judgement on my credit that had been paid off a few years ago and it had been removed from my credit report until and I had recieved a fax at that time saying that my debt with the state had been fullfilled. I had even recieved a copy of my credit report showing it had been removed and everything seemed fine until recently when I tried to buy a house and it had appeared again causing me to lose the house I was applying for a loan for. I called Austin and was told that they had switched over to a new system and it was a mistake they had made so I had to wait for it to be cleared up which took almost a month. I was wondering if I had any recourse with this since their mistake cost me getting the house.

Re: False information on credit report

Probably not, since most state agencies are immune from suit for those situations. However, it may be worthwhile contacting an attorney that handles litigation with state agencies to see whether that sort of negligence is covered by sovereign immunity.
