Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

My father is in a Texas hospital and has Medicare insurance. His wife passed away in May and I am his only child. His assets are less than $30,000. If he passes away, am I responsible for his medical bills?

If you did not sign any paperwork stating that you would pay his medical bills, then you are not responsible for them.

The US got rid of debtors prisons.

However, his debtors might want some of his assets at the time of his death.

You need to talk to a probate attorney. His estate might not be worth probating. No attorney can answer you question based on the limited information you provided. You need to meet with an attorney in person and go over a bunch of questions. All the best to you - I know that it's difficult!
