Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
I want to know if it is legal to take over payments on a car and get a clear title in my name? Would I have to go to the lender and get the paperwork changed to my name?

You need to get the paperwork changed to your name. If you make the payments and the titled owner decides to take the car back, you will not be in a good position to argue that the car belongs to you.
