Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I recently received a collection letter from an attorney's office about an Amex account I had. They want all the money right now (10,000.00). I have had 3 jobs in two years, I am working about 32 hours a week for $16.00 an hour. I can start paying $100.00 a Month towards this but I am pretty sure they won't take it. How should I go about responding to this letter. I would like to get this paid but with other bills, and insurance premiums for medical and dental, because my job has no benefits, it is tight.

Since you can't pay, I recommend disputing the amount and telling them you can't pay. Do not pay anything because it extends the statute of limitations which is 4 years from last payment.

In times like this, keep food on the table, a home, and clothes..etc..first things first..call if you have other credit problems.
