Statue of limitations credit card debt

Back in July, 2002 I made what I thought was a settlement payment on a credit card debt now I am being sued by an attorney for this account. Nothing has been done since back in 2002. I understand there is a statue of limitaions on this. Please advise

How much are they suing for? Might be worth countersuit. SOL is 4 years from last activity on the account.
