Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

does the surviving spouse owe debt of the deceased

My mother recently died and left my father a lot of bills. She was fighting a disease for about a year and racked up about 1 mil in medical bills. The policy paid 80% and was solely in her name. My father owns his house, both cars, and received about 100k in life ins. Does he have to pay for her unpaid medical bills. He lives in Texas

Your father is responsible for the unpaid "necessaries" of your mother, which would include her unpaid medical bills.

Whether they will go after him, or collect, is another situation.

You really need a local lawyer to get all the facts..most of your father's assets...and what may be your mother's may be exempt from claims...see a local lawyer
