If a 22 y/o man has "consensual" sex with at 14 y/o girl in Texas can he only get 2-3 yrs in jail and not have to register as a sex offender, is this true?

Sexual assault of a child (14 and over but under 17) is a second degree felony which carries from 2 to 20 years in prison as the possible punishment so it is possible to get a prison sentence of 2 to 3 years.

Ms. Henley's correct about the 2-20 year sentence range (and theoretically, probation's a possibilty as well). However, whether the punishment is probation or a prison term (and it would be prison, not jail), lifetime sex offender registration requirements would necessarily result, at least as tgh law reads now.
