Re: assault to a family member

First, if there is a protective order, your friend must not have contact with the "victim." If the victim tries to contact your friend, your friend should keep track of that and what was said. If there are messages left, those should be saved. The same goes for letters and emails. That being said, I am not able to say how your friend would go about "proving his innocence" since I do not have much information to go on. Has a criminal case been filed? If so, it may ultimately have to be resolved in court. I do advise that your friend hire an attorney. His lawyer will be able to investigate the case, read police reports, talk to the prosecutor and advise your friend on his legal options. I will tell you that Assault/Family Violence is taken very seriously by prosecutors. I wish you and your friend luck. If I can be of any help, please let me know.
