There are two types of probation in Texas. First, there is "regular" probation. Here, the judge finds you GUILTY and sentences you to a period of time in jail. However, he suspends the sentence and places you on probation. Even if you successfully complete the probation, you will still have a conviction because the judge found you guilty.

With Deferred adjudication probation, the judge does NOT find you guilty. He makes a finding that the evidence substantiates your guilt, but he DEFERS finding you guilty and simply places you on probation. If you successfully complete the probation, the charges are dismissed and you have no conviction.

There are also other important differnces between the two types of probation that have to do with how you would be treated if your probation were revoked.
