Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Difference

What is the difference between Domestic Violenice - Family Violence - & Assult Contact FV? My boyfriend's daughter came at him swinging and tried three times to hit him. He open hand slapped her in the face - she is 21 - 6'0'' and at 240 pounds. He was arrested and charged with Assualt (Contact) FV with a classificatin of domestic violence. His bond was $300.00

She does not (nor has she ever lived with him - in fact she is not biologically his daughter)

Thank you

Re: Difference

He may not qualify for family violence designation. However, the penalties for a first offense are no different than if there were no family designation. The main question here appears to be whether he acted in self-defense which if he did should result in a dismissal or acquittal. He should seek qualified legal advice.
