Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Someone has been harassing me on Facebook for over a month now. I filed a report but the detective I talked to said there is nothing tehy can do about it because it is on a social network. Is that true? If so, how do I go about trying to get that law changed?

You can try contacting the prosecutor's office. Cops are not lawyers and do not know the law nearly as much as they act like they do. You cannot rely on a policeman to advise you as to the law. You may or may not get a prosecutor to talk to you, but you can try. I cannot advise you on changing a law as I am not a lobbyist and have never served in public office. You would start, however, by talking to your local state representative or state senator about it. This is something they might could get interested in. Seriously. Privacy, social networks, etc., are starting to get more attention these days and it is not all good.
