Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

This is for my son. He was working for a company and one of his supervisors that he would have to go through to get equipment repaired had a ghost company that he was using to embezzle money from the company and us the PO numbers that were assigned to my son to bill the head company. He thought something was going on and left them and went to a different job in Michigan, the FBI came in and confiscated the computers and cell phone which my son left on his desk when he quit, now the "company investigator" wants him to sign a statement. Can he refuse to sign it if it is not the FBI or does he need to consult a lawyer or contact the FBI?
