Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Texas

Shouldn't these organizations be illegal?

I have a question. If it's illegal to discriminate based on race, why is it that there is the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) and the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People)? If there were an organization entitled UWCF (United White College Fund), wouldn't there be a huge uproar? I'm not prejudiced, but fair should be fair. As a white man, could I sue the UNCF if they won't help me with college because I'm white? Is this lawsuit material, or are attorneys to afraid to touch these powerful organizations?

It is perfectly legal for a private organization to establish guidelines for funding prospective college students which include age/race/gender/geography, etc. restrictions. You could certainly establish one if you wish. Likewise, there are multitiudes of private organizations or associations whose goal is the furtherance of any group's interests, from female librarians to southern dentists to the Ku Klux Klan. This is America, and you have both freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, as well as other rights governed by the first amendement to the U.S. Constitution and elsewhere.
