Legal Question in Education Law in Texas

I am in 8th grade and I have Dyslexcia and on the ITBS test i did poorly and now they want to put me in Wilson. I have dont Skottish Rite for 4 year and I Have over come it. My mom told me about the law 504. That gives me the oppoetunite to have more time , be in a quite place and have modificaltions. So, the ITBS Test is timed shouldn't I have had as long as i needed ? I would like you ti send me the law paper that tells about the 504 law. Thanks!

If you suspect/know that your child may have a learning

disability, he/she can be assessed free of

charge by your local public school.

Put your request in writing. Ask for a

"complete special education evaluation " to

determine if your child is eligible for special

education programs and services. If your child

has any disability that impacts his or her

ability to benefit from his/her educational

setting than an assessment by the public school

system should take place. Your child may be

eligible under the IDEA (Individuals with

Disabilities Education Act) or under Section 504

of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Our public

schools systems are mandated by both State and

Federal law to seek and serve children with

disabilities in the educational system. If your

local school system's "child find" mandate failed

to address your child's needs you may pursue

identification and services by making a request

in writing to your local school district.
