Religious denominations survey

Is it against the law for teachers at a college to ask students to raise their hands while he/she calls out different religous groups?

No, it is not unlawful as long as that information is not used to discriminate against members of any particular religious group (or those of no denomination or preference) based on that affiliation, or lack of affiliation.
