Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Texas

I live in Texas and am chair of a non-profit which wants to do a poker run. I want to know if we can do this legally and if so what prizes can we award? Do we have to give a prize or can we give cash? All money raised goes to a non-profit OCRF

Your zip code places you in Weatherford in Parker County. Being that Weatherford is the county seat, my suggestion is to pick up the phone and make a local call to John Forrest, County Attorney for Parker County and ask him. He can let you know what he will prosecute and what he won't. Even if it is technically illegal, he may let you know he doesn't prosecute non-profits for poker runs. On the other hand if he tells you that it is illegal and he would prosecute you, then you know not to do this and to find another fund raiser. Sometimes common sense advice to call the responsible government official is better than legal advice.
