last name change for child

when my son was born i was not there to fill out the birth cirtifacate. therefore his last name is not mine (the father) i now have been trying to figure out how to get me on the birth cirtifacate and his last name mine!!!

If you are not married to the child's mother, you will need to file a Suit Affecting Parent-Child Relationship. Once the court enters the order, it will cover visitation, custody, child support and name change if needed. This is a fairly complex area of law, and I recommend you contact an attorney in your area and see what your options are, and how cooperative the mother of the child will be. TCL
