Permanent managing conservator is fancy lawyer speak for permanent custodial parent. Possessory conservator refers to the "visiting" parent. The word "permanent" only means that the matter of conservatorship is settled with regard to the current legal proceedings. Parties can petition the court to change conservatorship after a specific period of time has elapsed since the previous conservatorship order and if there has been a "substantial change in circumstances."
