Re: child support while in college

The parent ordered to pay child support is responsible to pay support no matter the employment status of the custodial parent. The right to child suppport belongs to the child and not to the custodial parent. The child support obligation does not go away and interest on past due amounts continues to accrue if payment stops.

Child support lasts until a minor child turns 18 or graduates from high school, whichever is later.

In Texas, parents are not required to pay for college.

They can voluntarily agree to pay for college but the court can't order a person to pay for their child's college education.
