Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Claims of Pregnancy

My ex girlfriend is claimimg to be 4 months pregnant with my child. She has had a tubal ligation & has not been to a doctor. I have repeatedly asked her for proof, but I have not received anything. She has posted this information on her website & is telling many people this. Is there anything I can do to make her prove she is pregnant or cease from her postings, etc.?

Re: Claims of Pregnancy

Phantom pregnancies are more common than you realize.

Here are a few things to do:

Most important -- documentation is your friend. Keep detailed records.

First, get a calendar and mark all the dates you had sex. Then start to calculate 9 months in the future. Now you have an idea of her delivery date.

Second, quit having sex with her. That eliminates any future delivery date(s).

Third, pre-natal care is very important. Try to get her to a doctor asap.

Fourth, keep copies of all the emails, etc. Keep a log of all the people she tells including their full name, address, phone numbers and employers name and address - you might need them in the future for witnesses.

Fifth, try to get her to do a home pregnancy test. You can't make her.

Sixth, keep in touch with her family and best friends.

Seventh, you can register with the State of Texas in case she ever has a child. I don't know the form but it's probably available on-line. You must provide the possible dates of conception and your full name and address so you can be contacted in the future.

Eighth, as soon as the baby is born as for DNA testing. You have a right.

Lastly, as soon as the baby is born or about to be born, file a voluntary paternity and ask for DNA testing.

There is a recent landmark case about a woman who received child support for 2-3 years. The "father" insisted on meeting the child. Finally, the judge ordered her to produce the child in the courtroom for DNA testing. She was arrested on the way to court after she kidnapped a stranger's child. THERE WAS NO BABY! Yes, it happens. If she's truly crazy you are in for the ride of your life!
