Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

dating laws

if a man of 18 and a girl of 14 are just merely dating and have both agreed not to have sex before they are both of legal age, is that illegal? if sex is not a factor in the situation, is it still illegal

Re: dating laws

Since the 14 year old is a minor, she is legally unable to make decisions for herself.

Her parents (or guardian) must give consent. (I suggest getting it in writing, dated and notarized.) Of course, this consent can be revoked at any time. If the parent does not like you, the parent can go to the police and have you arrested -- I have no idea what they might charge you with. It is often difficult to prove that you did NOT have sex.

Be aware that having sex is not your only concern. There are all sorts of other things that lead to your arrest - giving a minor alcohol, buying her cigarettes, having her out past the midnight curfew in Houston, etc.

There are plenty of guys in prison today for "dating" under age girls. You will then be a registered sex offender for the rest of your life.

Good luck! Be careful.
