Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

divorce with husband overseas

My husband is currently overseas and he will be gone for six months. I would like to start the divorce process. How can I go about this? How much does a divorce usually cost? Do I need his signature on any papers? We have no children and have been married almost a year. Also, I would like to file for a ''no fault'' divorce.

Re: divorce with husband overseas

You can file for and obtain a no fault divorce without the signature of your Husband. He will have to be officially served with the papers overseas and that may be expensive depending upon where he is. This divorce could likely be accomplished for less than $1,000.00 plus filing fees and costs to serve the papers.

You did not state if property issues are involved.

If you live in the Harris County, Texas area, I have developed a "do it yourself" divorce kit for people with no children, no property, no debts, etc. They just want a "bare-bones" divorce and both parties will sign the paperwork.

I fill out the papers with you and make all the copies. I walk you through the entire process - where to go and what to say and do. These are forms that I developed along with my office mate, Judy Ritts. They work in Harris County, Texas.

The spouse must sign a document in front of a notary and he must sign the Agreed Final Decree of Divorce.

Don't waste your money on the office supply kit -it is a waste of your time and money. If you read the fine print it says that "state forms not included".
