Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Ex-husband keeping son from mother

Last July while my son was visiting his natural father I recieved a phone call 2 days before my son was to return home. He wanted to live with his dad. I told him to come home and we would talk about. A week later I was served with an emergency summons for custody modification. My ex had nothing to do with his son all of his life up to this point. I am a single mother who was unemployeed and I had a difficult time finding a lawyer to represent me. My first attorney ditched me unexpectedly at a court session (she didn't even show up)and the next lawyer didn't seem to want to represent my interests. I lost custody of my son on Oct. 11, 2002, because he stated that he wanted to live with his dad. His dad promised him many luxuries I could not provide. Since my son moved to Texas, I can't get e-mails answered, phone calls returned and it's constant harrassment when it comes to my visitation time. We go to court June 18th for a review but I can't afford representation. My ex has made a 6 figure income the past 3 years and I have been unemployeed from May 2002 until 3 weeks ago. Is there anything I can do to protect myself and my visitation rights or any way that I could postpone the hearing?

First, you need to find, not one job but two jobs. This can be done. When you hold these two jobs, you need to save money. Use the saved money to hire a lawyer. Keep at least one job so that the child will not have to live in a household without money.
