Is my ex-wife allowed to get half of my retirement during the 9 years and 5 months that we were married. I understand from some other friends that you had to be married 10 years before they were entitled to it?

Generally, property that accumulates during the marriage (such as retirement benefits) is community property, and is divisible upon divorce. There are no time limits.
