Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

family law- child support

I had a child 1984 in Germany with a us army soldier who never paid child support and even though the German government tried to find him the us army did not give out his address so i could never get help with supporting my son. The father retired a couple of years ago. I since then became a resident of the USA(Nov 2008) and my son, now 23 would like to attend college and i would like to know if there is any way to ask for financial support from the father. what legal steps should i follow?

Thank you

Try contacting the Texas Attorney General's Office. You might be able to get your claim in under the statute of limitations.

You can contact whatever department handles child support of the state in which you live (the Department of Revenue in Florida, for example) or hire a lawyer in the state where the father lives to seek child support. You should do this quickly, though, because there are time limits for such lawsuits. In Florida, for example, your time has probably already expired, but you should explain the entire factual situation of your case to a lawyer to be sure.
