Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

legal Guidelines to Child Name Change

I would like to change my son's last name by adding my last name also. I do not speak with his father, no child suport or legal document completed through the court. I have my son, end of story. I would like to know if I have to find his dad to be able to change the last name since it is on the birth certificate? He was born in Florida, but now My son and I live in Texas. Do I file in texas or Florida? Can I do it without finding his father?

Re: legal Guidelines to Child Name Change

You file where you have lived over 6 months.

You would need permission of the father to modify his name.

Sorry!
